Care & Wellness

Health

It is recommended that after purchasing your kitten,  he/she is taken to your veterinarian within 48 hours to validate it's health.

It is very important to maintain regular vet checkups & up-to-date immunization.

If your kitten appears compromised, contact your veterinarian and follow their recommendations, if something looks off ask your vet.

Reputable Veterinarian + Clinic

I highly recommend our Veterinarian Mike Price at Clearwater Vet Clinic in Rocky Mountain House, AB.

He is very knowledgeable about the Sphynx Breed and very gentle and caring for the animals well being. He is well worth the drive.

Feeding

Sphynx cats burn off more energy being naked, highly recommended high quality cat food to maintain and keep them healthy. Cheap brands are not good for sphynx cats.

Allow access to dry food and fresh water 24/7.

Raw or wet food provided once or twice a day.

Exercise

Sphynx cats are very social and active animals. It is recommended that they receive a lot of attention and daily exercise. (A cat exercise wheel is awesome to have)

Companionship

Is two better than one?

Sphynx cats do do better in pairs or with other animals. They are social pets and can adapt well to others.

Bathing/Grooming

Bathing your cat is recommended weekly/bi-weekly depending on how much oils their skin produces.

Brown eye discharge is normal, but yellow or green is not. Please contact your veterinarian if this occurs.

When it comes down to bathing your sphynx, using a scrubby glove is helpful as it does a better job at exfoliating and removing dirt from the skin. Please note, the face and eyes should never come in contact with the scrubby glove, use a soft wash cloth or wet wipe for these areas.

When cleaning the ears, wet wipes and Q-tips are handy. Wet wipes can get the bigger surfaces while using the Q-tips can get into the tight crevasses.

Never go deeper then you can see!! You do not want to damage your kittens ears.

Vet recommended ear cleaner is optional.

To cut cat nails, you only cut the clear nail part. Never cut the pink quick, this will hurt your kitten.

Tutorial videos will be uploaded soon.

Maintenance

Your Cats Litter Box Needs to be Cleaned on a Daily Regular Basis!

Chunky Crystal Litter, recycled paper pellets, or clay litter work great.

Please keep in mind, fine crystal powder can get stuck in your sphynx nose! This can be uncomfortable thus why I do not use it or recommend it.

Unlike normal cats, sphynx have no nose hair to prevent crystal powder going up their nasal cavity.

Environment

Sphynx cats are hairless animals and as such they require extra care when it comes down to keeping warm. Having warm areas in the house they can retreat to when cold is required. A good rule of thumb, if you are cold, they are too.

Sweaters, shirts, space heater, heated enclosed beds, heated beds are must for this breed.

This breed will get sick in constantly cold environments.

It is recommended that after purchasing your kitten, he/she is taken to your veterinarian within 48 hours to validate it's health.
